ALEXANDER WOOLEN MILL The mill was established in 1872, just off Beaver Street
(now 9th Ave. S.E.) near the Bear Creek River Fords, between Lake St., now 7th St. SE
Rochester Street; now 6th St. SE. At that time a little creek, Mayo Run, joined Bear
Creek at 6th St. The mill manufactured yarn blankets and flannel, made wool into batts
and single yarn to be used in making cloth. The mill was the type known as a "one cent
mill," and also was known as a custom mill.
